Certify Carbon

Unrivalled knowledge of the Woodland Carbon Code and Peatland Code.

To generate income from the sale of credits issued under the Woodland Carbon Code and Peatland Code, you will first have to certify your project through either of those two standards. There are three main stages to the carbon certification process: registration, validation and verification. We can guide you through the entire process, or any of the individual phases.

We are the market makers

In 2006, our founders Steve and James pioneered the idea of a voluntary carbon market for new woodlands. Before long, 40 new woodlands (800 hectares) had been established. Recognising the need for a regulatory code and project registry, they persuaded the UK government to create a woodland carbon standard. They spent two years helping to develop the Woodland Carbon Code and a further 12 years on its Advisory Board.

Next, the growing team supported Defra in developing a business case for a Peatland Code and helped create it through Advisory Board membership and piloting project certification.

Since then, we’ve certified hundreds more nature-based projects through the respective Codes, and sold over 2 million carbon credits (PIUs) from them.

The depth of our experience ensures that the farmers and land managers we work with make the most of their land through the UK carbon market and do good for the generations to come.

19% of all Woodland Carbon Code projects that have been planted and validated have been done directly through Forest Carbon (Forest Research and IHS Markit)
