Aswanley is a great example of a multi-purpose woodland. Primarily the trees have been planted to provide shelter and amenity for livestock on an Aberdeenshire farm. However, by using native species the project also aims to increase the connectivity of upland woodland habitat in the area. Sessile oak and birch form the lion's share of the project by composition, and both of these species are incredibly important for biodiversity, with more associated wildlife than any other tree species in the UK.
