Forest for Cornwall is a unique initiative spearheaded by Cornwall Council, with the ambitious aim of planting 8000 hectares of trees across the county. As the flagship project of Cornwall Council’s Climate Change Action Plan, which was formulated in response to the council’s declaration of a climate emergency, the initiative was conceived to take action on Cornwall’s carbon emissions and sequestration potential. Embracing all types of tree planting, from hedgerows and community orchards to small and large-scale forestry, woodlands and agroforestry, this initiative will benefit the Cornish community for many decades to come.
We are pleased to be working together with Forest for Cornwall as the carbon project advisors for a pilot scheme. Our role is to provide expertise and consultancy on the carbon project development and financing components of woodland creation.
How Forest Carbon Supports Cornish Woodland Projects
An important component of any project with aim or removing or avoiding carbon emissions is the measurement and verification of the associated carbon sequestration. This is especially important if the project is being developed so that carbon claims (e.g., offsetting, Net Zero) can be made against it, or if the landholder would like to develop the woodland as a carbon asset for sale in the future.
Forest Carbon has been operating in the carbon project development of woodlands for over 16 years and was one of the key architects of the UK Woodland Carbon Code. We provide free early-stage advisory and the registration of your project on the Woodland Carbon Code registry and consultancy on all facets of carbon project development. In managing your woodland asset, we also bring our knowledge of the carbon market to provide guidance on the sales and marketing strategy to achieve best value for your woodland carbon credits. If a project is at idea stage, we will connect you to a forestry planning consultant who advise on the on-ground project design, grants and delivery. We then step in to provide a service that is tailor-made to each project, bringing our detailed knowledge of the certification process, including additionality assessments and carbon calculations, project registration, validation and ongoing verifications.
